Week-End Notes

Source: Flickr

Before I leave on a business trip to Canada for most of next week, I wanted to share a few musings with you on this beautiful week-end of July. Quick ideas I find worth sharing, but not in a dedicated post each. I hope you'll enjoy these notes of the moment.

On the blog's content

I have been thinking of re-arranging the main categories of the blog lately. Maybe as I find myself updating more of some categories than others.

Also, I've received a few reader requests and suggestions to go deeper around some topics, which gave me new inspirations to share what might be interesting for you readers. I'll introduce new post topics in the next few weeks, and those you like might become mini-series.

I Love Life Hacks

How I love finding great Life Hacks from the Interwebs. Simple tricks I would never have thought of, and that require little time and no extra purchases. A bit like the opposite of the new needs created by marketing: a way to find new uses and tips from what we already own. I love that concept of reusing, recycling, making do - less purchases, less waste, more creativity!

Concrete example: six months after purchasing a mini-rug in a Moroccan store, I was getting desperate about how to get rid of cat hair (I don't own a vacuum cleaner). So happy to have found this life hack below.

Random Concluding Notes

Even though I'm still within the first month, my shopping fast is making me want to be more creative and experimental with my own closet and outfits these days. There might be some level up mini-challenges coming up these next few months.

I have written and planned a couple of posts over the week-end to keep la Nife going while I'm away. Including a new post topic that might become a mini-series if you guys enjoy the concept. Keep providing feedback! Even though I'm choosing the editorial line of this blog, the goal is also to share and develop ideas that are interesting to readers. (Otherwise I'd just write it all on my private diary).

Even if I'm away, you should have a bit of reading from la Nife next week. I'll have the hotel wifi to check up on comments but I don't know if I'll have time to answer. In any case, I'll be back end of next week. Enjoy your week, and see you around!

    1. Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy these :) Canada was great but too short! I loved Toronto and would have liked to stay a few more days to explore...

  2. Have a good trip and welcome again to Canada! Also, I love when people post their packing strategies, with pictures. There's something so satisfying about it!

    1. Ah I see what you mean. I always lay down everything I'm packing, just like the picture above, even when I don't take a picture of it for the blog. Maybe the neat organization vibe of it :) I loved Toronto by the way, you're lucky to live in that area ;)

  3. Hope you get some downtime in Canada too. I really like the packing picture too; it's nice seeing your earthy color palette (I must say I'm immediately drawn to the blue shirt and the tan bag near the top of the shot.)

    1. I had just enough down time to replenish my stock of cinnamon gum, and get a drink on the first afternoon. We also went out for dinner in Toronto, but we were too tired to explore. I hope I'll get to go back for a longer time next time :)

I'm not surprised you are attracted by these items. The blue top is from Uniqlo, I bought it when they opened the Marais store last April. A challenge to have a more colourful palette for this summer. I realize I never wrote the post about Uniqlo le Marais. I'm going to be so late on this one :)

  4. Have a great trip Kali! I use my dog's hair brush to get hair off the carpet, seeing as it is the tough metal-bristle kind. I'll have to try the squeegee too!

    1. Ah that's a good idea too! I have a metal brush for my cat as well. I wonder if it wouldn't damage the carpet though, all these little prickling metal things. the squeegee works charms though, I hadn't seen the real colour of this carpet in weeks!

  5. Is that a hand fan that I see in the bottom left corner of your items? I collect hand fans. Also being inquisitive is that a small container of nuts? Have a good trip. Jenny.

    1. Yes it is a hand fan! I think there is another picture of it somewhere in a 2013 musing post somewhere. I bought it at Muji last year. And yes, I have a little metal box full of nuts and dried fruit. That's to have a healthy option when I get hungry during the travel. And if the in-flight food is disgusting (which didn't happen this year, thankfully).

  6. A long time ago I entered all my clothes in an Excel sheet to help make sure I didn't forget anything when moving into a new house. Ever since then I've maintained it for a similar reason. Referencing it every once in a while reminds of the pieces that deserve a bit more airtime, but don't come to mind when I'm getting dressed in the morning. I hope you have a great trip!

    1. Thanks! I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one to have an excel sheet with my list of clothes out there, haha. That's exactly what it is for in my case too: point out clothes I don't wear often despite liking them a lot. I think that's a side effect of my wardrobe editing of these past 3 years - I only have clothes that I enjoy wearing, but I still have too many of them to give them enough wear, at least for certain categories like tops. The sheet is working wonders so far :)

  7. Wow, absolutely love that leather handbag!! The timing of this post couldn't be more appropriate, as I'm heading on a week-long trip in a few days. Will give the travel capsule a try!

  8. I'm really interested in having my clothes on the XL sheet !... I've never heard of that before !

    1. That's very simple really! I used to have my list on a pen & paper notebook, but the good side of excel is you can modify easily, add the number of wears or price etc. and make automatic calculations. I have to admit it is scary when you actually add how much you spend on clothes, for me it was one of the big motivations for the shopping fast ;)

    2. I see !
      Thank you.
I've already taken pictures of my closet and was so sacred when I see tha to my computer... so many things... And I know, because I spend time in clothes shops to relax, that when I have a list of what I already get, I won't buy another new thing...
