8 Facts

My Picture.

Maja has posted 8 facts about herself a couple of days ago, and challenged anyone interested in posting their own. So here are my 8 facts. I didn't know if that was supposed to be fun facts, interesting facts, confessions... So I did a jolly mix of weird and unrelated facts, whatever that tells about me.

1. I live in a 25m2 one bedroom appartment in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, that I share with my cat, Kinoa. I also have a (human) life partner, who works in another city.

2. Although I am a grown woman, marketers could call me a "hardcore gamer". I play the Xbox 360 several hours a week, and I enjoy shooting at stuff and slaying dragons, among other things. I even actually work in the gaming industry.

3. When I was a kid, I loved going to school and learning new things. My kindergarden teacher had to force me to go out and play with other kids during break time. Many other kids - and adults I suspect - thought I was weird. I still love learning new things, by the way (TED talks!)

4. My very first blog was called "Nihon Kiko" and was an everyday diary of my life in Japan, where I lived from September 2006 to August 2007.

5. I am turning 27 years old today.

6. I have a creative mind which likes to go in every direction: I started writing poems when I was 8 years old, I completed a crime novel lost in the limbs of time and windows 3.1, I draw some pencil sketches, I play the violin and write short stories based on my dreams.

7. Music confession: while I enjoy Jazz music, simple guitar tunes of folk and the raw, intense emotions generated by a master pianist or violonist, I have an unspoken passion for (sometimes heavy) metal.

8. I am exactly 1m56 tall, which is over 6cm below the French women average height, and no less than 15 cm below the Dutch average, according to Wikipedia. I have been at peace with that fact for a few years now, although as a teenager, I spoke about suing my parents for that DNA.

Bonus: I love reading research papers and tests of all sorts, and forming weird theories of all kinds. Since we are on the subject of personality facts, here is a free little personality test based on Jung's theories, that I find, to a scary extent, spot on. I would be an INTJ type, what are you?

Like Maja, I'm not going to tag anyone in particular for that little 8 facts challenge, but if you'd like to post 8 facts about yourself, please let me know in the comments, I'd love to read them.

  1. How fun, I'm an INTJ too! Loved to read these facts, it is always interesting to get a further glimpse into the people behind the blogs I read. I can relate a lot to #3: when my mom came to pick me up after my first day of school I was so disappointed that we hadn't learned anything at all that day. All we had done was sing songs and play!

    And happy birthday! :)

    1. Ah I can totally picture this. I remember explaining to my parents how bored I was in class one day because we didn't learn anything interesting. And we are the same personality type, it's really interesting to see that kind of similarities!

And thanks for the birthday wish ;)

  2. Happy birthday! I'm an INTJ too. I wonder if INTJ's maybe tend to prefer simple, elegant, effortless fashion, as I definitely find myself drawn to both your style and Maja H's...

    1. That's impressive that both of you also got INTJ! According to Wikipedia this is one of the rarest types from this test, accounting for 1 to 4% of the population.

Then maybe you're right, and that approach to simplicity and style corresponds well to this kind of personality, or maybe you find value in my blog because we have similar personalities. Anyway it's very interesting to know!

  3. Do you do artwork for a gaming company? I can see how gaming and heavy metal might tie in, and the fact that you're an INTJ means you probably have a lot of violent emotions pent up. ;-P I know because I speak from experience... I'm an INFJ which basically means I'm nuts.

    1. I wish I would draw well enough to do artwork for video games! I'm on the business side of the company, not the creative one unfortunately, not that I wouldn't want to!
You're right, I guess in my teenage years both games and metal music were a way to let emotions out - along with role-playing and theater I guess. I have a more adult approach to all this now though, I consider good video games like a good film or book, a piece of art and culture.

INFJ is also one of the rarest types! It's a very interesting one though, introvert but with a lot of empathy and human contact ability. Sometimes I wish I was a bit less socially awkward, although this also gets better with age.

    2. Sorry about spamming around in year old posts... I did the test for fun, and then it got really really scary because I'm a INFJ, too and nearly everything makes sense! Although there are still things that are different with me (I'm very talkative for example - you must have guessed it by now haha! - , although only if I feel safe).
I nagged my BF to do the test too and he's an ENTP. I browsed the net and it told me that we are a perfect match :D We knew that before the test, but good to know ;) The scary thing is that the internet also knew about the problems we face (or mostly faced, because we managed to solve quite a lot already). My problems in my teens were rather when I couldn't let my emotions out, that's why I felt suffocated in a last relationship. Maybe that's the F in my type.
Funny how your blog seems to be a magnet for INFJ and INTJ haha!
But no, I don't feel I'm nuts. Interesting that INF/TJ are very rare, because I never felt really different (apart from my teens, but let's be honest, a huge bunch of people feel different in their teens).

    3. I wondered about that too - attracting quite similar types as mine on the blog. Although I imagine it would be natural that my writing topics, approach and style would attract similar personalities..?

I am also very talkative when I feel safe - my partner actually didn't believe the "I" part of INTJ, but that's because I'm feeling particularly safe in his presence. Maybe that's a trait of these personalities as well - needing to feel at ease before loosening up a bit :)

I have always felt a bit different than the "norm", but I guess that comes down to regular teenage issues, like you say. I remember hating night clubs and wondering about not being normal because all people of my age seemed to go there and like it. Only later, when I met and bonded with similar people did I realize that no, not all people like going to night clubs.

Maybe INF/TJ being rare types, they feel different from the "accepted norm", but there are probably millions of us around the world no, nothing special about that after all :)

  4. happy birthday! my parents never bought me any video game things of the sort so i never got round to starting playing them. the closest i got to them was sims on my comp. anyway is that test accurate?! its so creepy i feel like someone has thoroughly examined my brain and analyzed my personality without my consent. i'm an ENTJ.

    1. It's frightening how accurate this test is, right? I don't know in details how it has been created, but I know it is based on Jung's psychological theories, so there is some scientific base to it.

I imagine that, like every test that categorizes human beings, it is approximate and can't depict your personality as an individual, but I think it's accurate enough to understand our strengths and weaknesses, and that of others. Some companies use it for team building and management training, too.

    2. good to know. i was just talking about it with some frds over lunch. maybe it's more of a confirmation bias but thanks for telling me there is some grains of truth in it.

  5. Happy Birthday! Hope it was a good one for you. My parents were like Joy's- no video games or cable TV for that matter growing up. Will take the personality test this weekend... I'm curious.

    1. Thanks! It was a great birthday although weird, it's actually snowing here, which is the rarest thing, in March. Let me know about the personality test, that's always interesting to read about!
