Life Editing: Small Concrete Examples

By Wiedmaier Source: Flickr

I have written about my questioning around simplicity, owning and buying less stuff, minimalism etc. a lot on this blog lately as you may have noticed. I have taken inspiration on sites and blogs such as Life Edited, Zen Habits or becoming minimalist, and I have also discussed about the whole thing with my friends and family.  On that last part, I noticed during these real life discussions that there is one common reaction: "these are great ideas, but how do you put them in action in real life? Are these really more than just words?"

On the Paradox of Choice

We live in a world where we have plenty of choices to make. Which is presented as a good thing, because being able to choose between different alternatives means having more freedom, right? For example, choosing what to study or where to work, where to live, what hobbies to spend time on... But I am wondering if there are not too many choices today.

Reinventing Your Wardrobe

From last Autumn

Why do we always need to buy more stuff? In that case clothes? I thought about this, and I realized this might be because we imagine ourselves happier owning something new, compared to our current situation. In the case of clothes, we imagine new outfits, maybe we even imagine ourselves more beautiful and stylish with these new clothes. This eternal search for happiness through new things could be what causes us to buy always more.

The Luggage Experience from my latest business trip made me think of Geroge Carlin's talk about our stuff. not only is it accurate, I also find it hilarious, what do you think?

I decided to put myself to a challenge in order to make this long trip as easy as possible: go with nothing but a small cabine luggage and a tiny pouch.

Less Is More

By K2D2vaca Source: Flickr

I have been feeling overwhelmed by all the objects surrounding me lately. I don't know if it is my wardrobe editing process that spread over the rest of my possessions, or if my discomfort towards my consumption habits was already here before and initiated my wardrobe questioning in the first place.

Emptying the Old Wardrobe

Source

When on the process to carefully build or rebuild one's wardrobe, getting rid of the old clothes is the most difficult part. First because we aren’t used to getting rid of all the objects surrounding us. Maybe also because we are afraid to make wrong choices and sell/donate something we end up wanting to wear again.

The Art of Simplicity

I've been very interested in the theories of minimalism for quite some time now - as I explained here.

In my research to comprehend a bit more this concept, I stumbled upon a book written by the French author Dominique Loreau.

Fashion or Style ? Dressing or Wardrobe ?

Via cracked.com

I always thought that fashion embodied the “buy and throw” philosophy of nowadays’ consumerism.

There are thousands of new different pieces of clothing on sale each month, made in China by underpaid workers. The collections change every couple of months and a fashionable piece is doomed to become out-dated in less than half a year.

About Minimalism

Via Amix
Minimalism is a concept, a sort of philosophy offering simplicity and epuration as a form of art, thought and way of life.

I discovered the concept and starting nurturing interest in minimalism when I was living in Japan.
